Who need IVF Treatment ?

IVF is a treatment for the couples who are facing infertility problems. The In-Vitro Fertilization will help the couples to conceive a baby. The IVF treatment involves the extraction of eggs from the woman’s uterus and fertilizing it outside the body. The male sperm are then combined with the female eggs in the laboratory dish to form embryos. The best embryos are then chosen by the embryologist and the rest of the embryos are frozen at a very low temperature. These frozen embryos are preserved for the second cycle or for the future. The In-Vitro Fertilization helps the couples to overcome various infertility problems. For several conditions such as tubal factor, IVF would be a useful treatment. For other cases, IVF is only recommended if simple treatments fail. Some common indicators are mentioned below who need the IVF treatment.

Tubal Factor/ Pelvic Adhesions

In total there are two treatments for such Tubal damages of pelvic adhesive disease. The first option suggested is to do a surgery and repair the Tubal damages. With this option you could get pregnant normally or use IUI method to get pregnant. But in many such cases surgery is not recommended due to some complications faced during the surgery. If the surgery is still performed and the woman tries to get pregnant, it will lead to a higher risk of getting pregnancy. In such cases where the surgery is not an option, there is another option. The second option involves by-pass of tubes completely with the help of IVF. So, if you have a tubal disease then you would be provided with detailed information about each of the option. This would help the couple to make a detailed and informed decision.

Endometriosis

Recent studies have suggested that mild to moderate forms of endometriosis can be effectively diagnosed and treated with a combination of medical and surgical therapies. But the endometriosis ranging for a higher form is recommended to be treated with the help of IVF. Treating endometriosis with IVF treatment would result in higher chance of success in pregnancy.

Male Infertility

The most significant improvement in treating the infertility in men with severe sperm abnormality. Men having sperm abnormality are being able to successfully fertilize the female eggs and result in pregnancy with the help of IVF treatment. IVF along with Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) has enabled many couples to successfully conceive a baby despite of the man having sperm abnormality. The ICSI is always recommended for any male having the problem of sperm abnormality, if the sperm is extracted surgically or because of the prior failure of the fertilization process.

Age related Infertility

As the age of female increases, ovarian function for that woman starts decreasing. The women ageing over 35 have a less chance of having a baby compared to a woman who is younger in age. But the IVF treatment enables the woman to become pregnant at any age. The success rates are a little low in women ageing over 35, but is not completely impossible. The woman can overcome the age factor with the help of IVF or in combination with ICSI and assisted hatching. The process of IVF treatment is recommended at a younger age, as the decrease in the ovarian function may start at an early age also. So it is better to have the IVF treatment sooner than later.

Anovulation and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

A major woman having anovulation or PCOS problems often get pregnant using less treatments such as IUI. But for the patients who more aggressive or are high responders towards gonadotropin therapies, IVF treatment are recommended. IVF treatment for anovulation has been an excellent diagnosis which reduces major risks of higher order.

Genetic screening or diseases

Before the implantation of the embryos in the uterus of the woman, IVF provides a genetic test on the embryos. Pre implantation genetic screening or pre implantation genetic diagnosis are used for the patients who are having a risk for passing on genetic illnesses to their offspring. This could happen because of both of the partner’s carrying the disease. Cystic fibrosis and Thalassemia are the two examples of the diseases which can be tested before the implantation of the embryos in the follicles of the uterus in a woman.

Unexplained Infertility

After complete evaluation it is known that approximately 20% of the partners would not encounter any identifiable cause of infertility. The IVF is successful even if all the other conservative treatments have failed, especially for the couples who have identified their infertility or sub-fertility problems and causes.
